Rated shutter life by camera model

How many shutter cycles each camera is rated for, and how to read its current count. Check your own camera with the free checker.

What the rating means

Makers test batches of shutters until they fail and publish a figure most units reach or pass. It's an average expectation, not a guarantee. Plenty of shutters run far past their rating and a few fail early.

Divide the camera's count by its rating to see how much of that expected life is used. A 7D Mark II at 50,000 actuations has used about a quarter of its 200,000-cycle rating.
